Hsiao-Hung Pai
Hsiao-Hung Pai is a journalist and author who was born in Taiwan and came to Britain in 1991.
Hsiao-Hung has written extensively for a number of newspapers and magazines including the Guardian and is a columnist for Chinese language newspaper the Storm. Her special interests are migration and labour. She spent years researching the working life of undocumented migrant workers in Britain and had a collection of essays (‘Hidden Assembly Line’) published on the topic. She also covered the Morecambe Bay cockle-picking tragedy for the Guardian.
She is the author of books including Chinese Whispers: The Story Behind Britain’s Hidden Army of Labour, Scattered Sand: The Story of China’s Rural Migrants, Invisible, Angry White People and, most recently, Bordered Lives (subtitled ‘How Europe Fails Refugees and Migrants’).
Hsiao-Hung is currently a member of the National Union of Journalists. She is based in London.
