HOW TO TAKE PART

Once you have booked, you will be sent an email with further instructions about how to download and take part in the experience.

To experience Perambulations…, each ticket holder must have their own smartphone, compatible headphones, and a strong WiFi connection to download the experience content. Your phone will need to have 350MB of memory to store the experience. We recommend downloading the experience before setting off to the Edinburgh Futures Institute, if you are able.

You can find a map of the route at the bottom of this page.

BEFORE THE SHOW

How do I view the performance?
When you buy a ticket through the Edinburgh International Book Festival website, you will receive an email containing a personalised link to download the experience content. You can do this at any point between receiving the link email (or from 10 August if you have booked your ticket in advance of the experience being available) and when you intend to enjoy the experience. When you are ready to begin, head to the Clock Tower meeting point at Edinburgh Futures Institute on Lauriston Place, put on your headphones, open the experience, and begin the walk by tapping start.

What time does the show start?
There is no specific start time, but we recommend doing the walk between 9am-9pm in line with the Book Festival’s box office opening hours. The running time is approximately 80 minutes, but the experience is designed so that you can walk at your own pace – so if you end up caught up in a street performance on your way, you won’t miss anything. The walk will wait for you.

Who should I contact if I experience any issues prior to the show?
You can speak in person to the Book Festival Box Office team, or email boxoffice@edbookfest.co.uk. If you are unable to download the experience, please check our Troubleshooting section further down this page.

DURING THE WALK

How long do I have access for?
Regardless of when you book, you will have access to Perambulations of a Justified Sinner until midnight on Sun 25 August. You can enjoy the experience on any day and at any time between booking and this date. The experience will be available to download from Sat 10 August.

Is the experience accessible?
It is! D/deaf audiences can choose to use the in-app captions. Visually impaired audiences may need a walking companion for safety with crossing roads.

What age is the experience suitable for?
It is suitable for ages 14+

I have a question that isn’t answered here.
Please email our team at boxoffice@edbookfest.co.uk, call on 0345 373 5888, or visit them at the main Book Festival site at Edinburgh Futures Institute, and they’ll do whatever they can to support you.
