Patrick Barkham & Jonathan Watts: Writing the Lives of Others

How do you capture the essence of a person through biography? Patrick Barkham revives the voice of Roger Deakin, founder of the wild swimming movement, in The Swimmer. He’s joined by Jonathan Watts, who recounts the intimate conversations he had with James Lovelock, late scientist, environmentalist and creator of the Gaia Theory, with his definitive biography The Many Lives of James Lovelock. They discuss the politics of writing about other people’s lives with Dan Richards.
