John Burnside: A Celebration

A titan of the Scottish literary world, John Burnside’s work encompassed novels, short stories, memoirs, academic works, and more. A celebrated master of imbuing the smallest details of life with magic and resonance, and constantly aware of the difficult but necessary connection between pain and joy, Burnside’s work was also visionary and international in its outlook.

The gap left by his passing earlier this year will be felt by friends, colleagues, students, admirers, and countless others he inspired around the world for years to come.

Tonight, we come together to celebrate Burnside’s incredible artistic achievements in this very special event, chaired by editor and former director of the Scottish Poetry Library, Robyn Marsack. Featuring readings, discussions, and recollections from those close to both the man and his work, including his long-time publisher, poet Robin Robertson; writer and friend Malachy Tallack; and novelist Sarah Perry, we invite you to join us to pay tribute to both Burnside’s impactful life and remarkable work.
