An ambitious study of reading, the imagination, and wellbeing.
The Edinburgh International Book Festival has teamed up with researchers from Durham University to launch the ReaderBank. Like other big databank projects (such as the UK BioBank), ReaderBank will create a database of the experiences, habits, and preferences of readers over several years. This will enable researchers to observe the long-term effects of reading and the role it plays in our everyday lives, allowing for exciting new insights into the mysteries of the reading mind.
Last year we entertained festival-goers with the Imagination Quiz and identified the main forces behind what we see, hear, and feel when we dive deep into a story. This year we are returning with new questions about the power of immersion and testing out VoiceMatch, a novel way of exploring how characters in a story sound to readers.
To meet the team behind the project and find out more, come visit ReaderBank next to the Canopy Cafe, 11:00 – 16:00, 21st -24th August.
