Penned with characteristic wit, compassion, and quietude, the novel reunites with Eilis Fiorello who is compelled to return to Ireland 20 years after leaving, questioning all she thought she’d left behind. Tóibín reflects with novelist Caoilinn Hughes on an oeuvre spanning three decades and whether it’s possible to ever truly ‘return’.
