The International Booker is the annual award for the best novel or short story collection from around the world and translated into English. With an equal prize to both author and translator, it’s the most significant award for translated fiction and unique in its recognition of both author and translator. Translating a piece of work is an act of collaboration, and of faith on the part of the writer and translator. Today, join Iona Macintyre, Michael Hofmann (joint winner of the International Booker Prize 2024 for his translation of Jenny Erpenbeck's Kairos) and Romesh Gunesekera (judge on this year's International Booker Prize) as they discuss the hidden work of the seamless translator with Fiammetta Rocco.
