Emily Mackie
Emily Mackie was born in Winchester and grew up in the Highlands of Scotland. Her debut novel, And This is True (2010) – a trailer of which can be watched on YouTube – is set in the rugged land where she was raised – and it’s quite the extraordinary debut: ‘be warned: this is not a fairytale. Although it does contain love, betrayal, escape, and most important of all, a kiss’. Many describe it as ‘shocking’, but maintain nonetheless that it is an exceptionally good read. Mackie has an MA in Creative Writing from Bath Spa University, and currently lives in Bristol, where she has begun work on her next novel, which, given the uniqueness of And This is True, is likely to be very eagerly awaited. Mackie has also been interviewed for Book Hugger.
Mackie’s novel And This is True was in the running for our inaugural Readers’ First Book Award in 2010. Each year, every one of the debut novels, novellas and short story collections appearing in our adult programme is entered into our Readers’ First Book Award, and the winner is chosen by the public. Details are announced when the programme is launched in June.
